![]() I even got an optima battery recently but plan to switch to Odyssey once its starts to fail. Unfortunately I'm just learning all this since I spent most of the last two decades in the military and went with dealership stuff. I think that's just how Johnson prefers its batteries though. The technology, quality of materials and construction are average now. ![]() You will get lucky now to get a couple of years out of optima batteries. Odyssey is the preferred high performance battery that will last a very long time to probably up to 10 years like the optima batteries used too. Since then it started its tumble to becoming just average. Optima was sold to Johnson the following year. The original owner of Optima had the same values as Odyssey and that's why they were so good, but once he retired and handed the company over to who knows who. Its around that time their quality fell way down. The company that bought out Optima a long time ago does not have these values and prefer quantity over quality and they also moved their manufacturing process to Mexico. They just have great pride in the quality of their product. Odyssey uses much better quality materials, QA is better even the technology is better. Odyssey has taken the place of Optima being the best battery, and they are made in the United states too. Won’t be buying any of their batteries in the near future and will be advising my friend and family to do the same. Unfortunate that Optima has turned this direction though. What sucks is I checked the warranty date and it expired 4 days ago.ĭoes anyone have an opinion on Optima batteries or have a history of them failing on you? I'm quite disappointed that the average life I've seen with these are under 3 years.Įdit: Thank you all for replying and sharing your thoughts. They didn't have another yellow top, so I got a wet battery, one of the only ones available. Today, my car suddenly wouldn't start, and after getting a jump and going to Autozone, it showed the battery had zero charge. It lasted around 2 years and was replaced in September of 2018 under warranty. ![]() At 126,000 miles in 2016, we had the battery replaced with an Optima yellow top dry battery. I have a 2005 Honda CR-V with 195,000 miles on it, bought it in 2015 with around 110,000.
